I'd not too bad a job, takes a bit of butchering but its easy with a Dremel.
I picked up one of those
I know, thats why I said it.
You going to redo your stock while you're at it? Might as well since you're taking it apart anyway?
I did as I wasn't completely happy with my first attempt. I still think its a bit dark but its an improvement.
I think over the festive time away from games etc - I'll be stripping down the K98 and G33/40 sanding and staining
.... won a small victory for common sense. We bought an artificial Christmas tree.
After 25 years of wifelet saying "I want a proper Christmas tree" she actually suggested buying one.
Heh, I wasn't going to argue.
I hate the annual pilgrimage to the Round Table charity tree sale knowing full well that even £40 won't get you a perfect specimen so you end up over-stuffing decorations on the leggy top 12".
The bastard needles always get jammed into the car's carpet and remain there like fish hooks until the car is sold.
Your hands get covered in sticky sap man-handling it into the living room and it can't be removed without industrial solvents.
And we have to turn an adjacent radiator off 'cos it makes the needles drop, so the room is cold for holiday break.
And what to do with the dead tree afterwards? Years ago I used to take it to the council tip, filling the car with billions of needles. Since the brown bin scheme I cut the branches off and shove them in the bin leaving the wood trunk, four of which I have lying at the end of the garden now as there doesn't seem any point in going all the way to the tip just for them. And I'm too nice to lob them over the fence at night.
One thing I hadn't bargained for though - it took 40 minutes to put up, with me doing the erecting and wifelet doing the fluffing.
One things for sure, it's going up in the loft as it is, I'll just bind it with string so it will go through the hatch.
So, £40-£25 = net gain of £15 this year, and £40 a year for the next, say, ten years. £400 or so return for £25, not a bad investment at all!

nice one david, i however managed to dodge the dreaded christmas tree debackle by claiming a bad knee and could not climb the ladder into the loft....... my cunning subterfuge worked like a charm. ( i will not be able to duck out next weekend though, )
im working over the chrimbo week!

Today I...
Cut up a couple of white sheets (it had better snow for sunday!).
Tweaked my PPSH41 (may now bring it on sunday).
Packed most of my gear for sunday.
Modified the MG42 to feed faster.
Started charging batteries.
Got the wife to make me a nice Ushanka.
Now, for the important stuff, time to drink all that beer in the fridge!

When I want your opinion - I'll tell you what it is!
..did some sewing, found a white sheet, fitted a tightbore barrel & new hop in my M14, tried to make my M14 mid-cap mags feed properly (limited success),hassled my mum to steal some chalk from her school and cleaned/polished my boots. ![]()
Packed kit. The pile of it in the living room seems to be a little smaller than usual. Best double-check the kit list...... ![]()
